Mindset Announces Accelerated 3-day Management Program

In order to make the Practical Management Program more affordable and at the same time reduce the number of days that delegates have to be away from their workplaces, we have introduced a 3-day version of the Practical Management Program. This version of the program will be known as the Accelerated Practical Management Program for Supervisors & 1st-line Managers. Delegates will still receive the full training manuals (4 volumes) as well as the pocket reference guide, but some of the subjects (e.g. human resources, IT, budgets, presentation skills) will not be covered during the classes – please click here to view the course contents. The 3-day program will also be more affordable, with individual rates coming down from R6,800 to R4,600, and onsite rates from R5,400 to R3,800 per delegate. The full 4-day program will however still be available on request.

Mindset Introduces Exciting New 1-day Workshops

In response to requests from the local market, Mindset has extended its product range through the addition of a series of high-impact 1-day workshops. The workshops are aimed at supervisors and 1st-line managers, and are particularly suited to individuals and companies that have a need for specific permutations of managerial and leadership skills training. The workshops will also be easier to attend, since delegates need only be away from their workplaces for one day at a time.
The following 1-day workshops will be introduced in Gauteng and Cape Town through the course of August 2011:
¤  Self-mastery & interpersonal skills – understanding and managing one’s emotions, improving one’s self-confidence and personal motivation, and making intelligent use of one’s emotions to better understand and manage relationships with others.
¤  Practical leadership skills – practical techniques to help supervisors and 1st-line managers to develop a clear vision and sense of purpose, and to empower and motivate their teams to pursue and achieve common objectives.
¤  Practical managerial skills – improved managerial efficiency through the application of a number of practical step-by-step techniques that include amongst others business communication, effective delegating, productive meetings, effective decisions and professional presentations.
Additional 1-day workshops are currently in the process of being developed and will be introduced in due course.

Management Development Program aimed at Engineers & IT Professionals

Engineers or IT professionals, who have suddenly been thrust into the world of management, may find themselves thinking that managing people is more of a challenge than their former highly technical jobs. This comes as no surprise: technical managers generally don’t become managers because they have outstanding people skills. In fact – they tend to be strong on technical and analytical matters and shaky on people management issues. Yet technical managers spend on average 75% of their time dealing with people and people-related issues, and they invariably have to manage multidisciplinary and multicultural teams – which makes the people-part of management even more daunting and challenging.
Companies, on the other hand, need technical managers that are not only proficient when it comes to technology, but also competent people managers - that is, if they want to remain competitive in a burgeoning technological era where product innovation and application or support services are increasingly a matter of multidisciplinary collaboration.
It is with this in mind that Mindset recently introduced the 1st-Line Technical Management Development Program - a training product specifically developed to equip junior or 1st-line technical managers with the necessary people, managerial and leadership skills to be successful in a multidisciplinary and/or multicultural environment. The program is based on the successful Practical Management Program for Supervisors and 1st-line Managers, but have been adapted for technical professionals with respect to content, practical exercises, terminology and case studies.

Mindset Case Study: EQi Improved with 8 Points!

Dr. Rica Viljoen, CEO of Mandala Consulting, used Gold Fields’ Tarkwa Gold Mine during the recent series of Mindset/Mandala Consulting info-workshops as the basis for a case study to illustrate the impact of Mindset’s Practical Management Program on a test group of 15 mid-level managers. The case study was built around Roger’s construct in the Handbook of Organisational Psychology that an overall EQi increase of 5 points will result in a 74% productivity improvement at the back office and a 128% improvement at the coalface.
Rica explained the use of BarOn’s EQi model as the basis of the pre- and post-assessments, and since Mindset’s Practical Management Program was the only intervention effected in the period between the pre- and post-assessments, the 8 point improvement is deemed statistically valid and reliable.
