Company Overview: Mindset Management Programs

Mindset Management Programs was established by Johan Poolman in 2005 with the sole purpose of bringing to market a novel management training program aimed at 1st-line managers. An alliance was formed with Randburg-based Mandala Consulting in 2007, which subsequently resulted in the product being presented to a number of key focus clients, such as Anglogold Ashanti, in South Africa and some African countries. The vision of Mindset Management Programs with respect to management training can be summarised in three points:

• To light their fires – by being the catalyst and stimulus that will inspire inexperienced manager’s to unlock their hidden talents and realise their full potential;
  
• To demystify management – by reducing complex leadership practices and management philosophies into simple, easy-to-understand and practical techniques;
  
• To stimulate learning through technology – through the creative use of information and classroom technology to fuel classroom interaction and improve assimilation.
  

Mindset Management Programs’ stated intention is to become a prominent player in the South African management training industry and at the same time to broaden its scope through the introduction of some exciting new leadership training products.

The Mindset ManagementTeam

Johan Poolman is a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 24 years experience in managing a number of technology companies, both locally and abroad, in fields as diverse as business analysis, IT systems integration and entertainment robotic product development – companies such as Multi-Business Systems (business analysis), Automated Methods (CAD and GIS product development, sold to US-based Autodesk Inc.), Computer Foundation (GIS systems integration, sold to Denel Informatics), Mindset Management Programs (established in 2005) and Robonica (entertainment robotics).

His hands-on managerial exposure, together with his 10-years experience as Infantry training officer in the SA Army, prepared and equipped him as a dynamic and inspirational facilitator and developer of a number of management and leadership training programs. 

Johan’s passion for training got a further boost when he attended a lateral thinking course in the late 80’s, presented by Dr Richard Broome, that so-to-speak ‘lighted his fire’. The experience made him acutely aware of the need for some 'external spark' or intervention to help unlock the huge potential that remains hidden in most people – even more so in a developing country such as South Africa, with its acute shortage of experienced managers, where star performers with little management experience are frequently expected to perform miracles when suddenly pressed into management positions. Johan’s hands-on managerial experience in a diversity of technology companies is also particularly relevant when it comes to training supervisors and 1st-line managers in technology environments where engineers and programmers with sometimes limited people skills have to manage diverse teams of experts. 

Dr Rica Viljoen is an organisational design practitioner and specialist consultant who consults specifically on organisational transformation and leadership development.  She is a co-owner and founder of Mandala Consulting (Pty) Ltd. With more than 16 years consulting and facilitation experience nationally and internationally her expertise lies in climate study research, emotional intelligence development and the creation of change resilience. 

She completed her Doctorate in Business Leadership in October 2008. The focus and unique contribution of her doctorate is on the specific emphasis of creating a climate of inclusivity where individual voices and therefore tacit knowledge of leadership within the organisation is unleashed.  She has successfully coached various prominent business leaders in the South African and International business context.

Skills levy training will be conducted by Mandala Consulting (Pty) Ltd which is a Service SETA Accredited Provider (decision nr 1976). Skills levies can be claimed back.
